Maria Salomaa is a Finnish-Swedish actress and director based in Stockholm, educated at the Theatre Academy in Helsinki. With 30 years of working experience, she has been performing and directing at the Nordic main stages as well as in selected fringe ones. Her experience also covers tv series, feature films, radio, writing for stage and performance. She is drawn to materials and topics that challenge her and the audience physically, mentally and intellectually. At the time being she is employed by Göteborgs Stadsteater.

Her recent stage work includes Bränder by Wajdi Mouawad at Göteborgs Stadsteater and Vargarnas tid at Teater Giljotin. Her film and television work includes Själakon, Om vägar, Tillbaka, Iris and Gränsen 1918, as well as several productions for Swedish and Finnish television. She has also worked extensively in radio theatre with Sveriges Radio. Salomaa was awarded the Carl Åkermarks Scholarship in 2008. She works in Swedish, Finnish, English and German.
